Overview
- Dr. James Stephen Jenkins, MD, FACC, FSCAI, FSVM is the section head of interventional cardiology and the director of interventional cardiology at the John Ochsner Heart and Vascular Institute at Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans, Louisiana. He also serves as an associate professor of medicine for the University of Queensland - Ochsner Clinical School in New Orleans. Throughout his career, Dr. Jenkins' focus has been translational research. He became involved in cardiology research at University of Missouri in Columbia, MO where he performed catheterization procedures on an a swine model studying atherosclerosis resulting in publications in 3 peer reviewed journals. Currently, he continues to collaborate with Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center's Cardiovascular Research Center, participating in multiple research projects supported by both institutional and government grants. Having this depth of experience in both human and animal subjects with atherosclerotic disease (acute myocardial infarction, hypertension, peripheral artery disease and coronary artery disease) makes Dr. Jenkins well suited to diagnose and treat these disease processes in his practice at Ochsner Medical Center. Within Dr. Jenkins' specialty of interventional cardiology he performs coronary, peripheral and structural intervention including mitral, aortic, septal, left atrial appendage, carotid and venous intervention. Dr. Jenkins is also fellow of the American College of Cardiology, the Society for Vascular Medicine, and the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions.
