Dr. Shilpa Amara is the medical director for the Ochsner Behavioral Medical Unit and the Associate Program Director for LSUHSC - Ochsner Psychiatry Residency Program. Her specialties include consult liaison, emergency psychiatry, telemedicine and general adult psychiatry. She received her doctor of medicine degree from St. Matthews University, school of medicine in Grand Cayman. She then completed her residency program training in psychiatry at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center-Ochsner Health System. Dr. Amara received the Roger Hatchette Award of Excellence in Emergency Psychiatry upon the completion of her residency. She also received the University of Queensland Teacher Excellence Award. She is an active member of the American Psychiatric Association, Louisiana Psychiatric Medical Association, Academy of Consult Liaison, American Association of Addiction Psychiatry and American Association of Directors of Psychiatric Residency Training.
