Dawn-Marie is an Adult Nurse Practitioner. Her extensive training, diverse background, cultural sensitivity and broad experience make her a valuable team member at Ochsner.Dawn-Marie brings with her a global perspective. Hailing from Long Island, New York, she served in the United States Navy and is a veteran of Operation Desert Storm/Shield. She began her nursing education at the University of Hawaii while she was still in the navy, and finished at Cumberland University in Lebanon, Tennessee where she graduated Cum Laude in 2001 with a B.S. in Nursing. In 2012 she earned a Master's of Science in Nursing from Loyola University in New Orleans. During that 16 year interim between earning her bachelor's and joining Ochsner, Dawn-Marie accumulated wide ranging patient care in critical and acute care settings at New Orleans-area hospitals. When Katrina struck, Dawn-Marie was instrumental in implementing emergency efforts in the Intensive Care Unit where she was working. When much of New Orleans was under water, Dawn-Marie's professionalism and ability to function at a high level under pressure proved indispensable to reopening the ICU. She is board certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioner and a member of the Louisiana Association of Nurse Practitioners; American Academy of Nurse Practitioners; and Sigma Theta Tau, the International Honor Society of Nursing. Dawn-Marie continues to hone her skills and increase her effectiveness by regularly attending accredited continuing medical education conferences. She is certified to perform Physical Capacity Profiles and is nationally recognized as a certified medical examiner for the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. As Nurse Practitioner, her professional interests include health promotion and disease prevention, wellness, urgent care, occupational health and rehabilitation, just to name a few. Given our highly diverse patient population in Louisiana, Dawn-Marie recognizes the importance of an individualized approach to healthcare and is dedicated and passionate about improving access to healthcare and patient education. Dawn-Marie's interests extend beyond health care to public service in her community and to her own personal growth. She is member of the Coliseum Square Association and Parks and Parkways, and has volunteered at a numerous health fairs and Run for the Cure races. Away from the office she has a healthy interest in entrepreneurship, decorating and design, architecture, and managing rental properties. She enjoys the outdoors, sailing, exercising, biking, reading, exploring new things and places and meeting new people.
