Dr. Gomes received his medical degree from Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center New Orleans in 1980. He went on to complete his internship and internal medicine residency at Earl K. Long Hospital in Baton Rouge. He completed his fellowship in pulmonary medicine and critical care medicine at Ochsner Foundation Hospital in New Orleans in 1987.
Dr. Gomes is board certified by American Board of Medical Specialties in internal medicine and the subspecialty of pulmonary disease. He has been on staff at Ochsner since 1993 and practicing medicine since 1980. He is the former chief of medicine and director of the sleep lab at the Ochsner Medical Center Baton Rouge. Dr. Gomes has an interest in occupational lung disease and is a certified NIOSH B reader of chest radiographs. He performs cardiopulmonary exercise testing, bronchoscopy and thoracentesis. He continues to have a special clinical interest in pneumoconiosis (dust diseases of the lung) and sleep disorders. Dr. Gomes enjoys watching LSU baseball in his free time.
