Overview

  • Dr. George Chimento is the system chair of orthopaedic surgery at Ochsner Health, and a professor of orthopaedic surgery at the Ochsner Clinical School - University of Queensland School of Medicine. His practice focuses on primary and revision hip and knee replacement surgery. Dr. Chimento graduated with honors from Georgetown University School of Medicine in 1990. He then completed his internship and residency at Charity Hospital and Tulane University Medical Center. Following residency, he served four years in the U.S. Air Force at Barksdale Air Force Base, where he was chief of orthopaedic surgery. He was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal for his contribution to the Air Force personnel at Barksdale. Upon completion of his Air Force commitment, Dr. Chimento became a fellow in adult reconstruction and joint replacement at the Hospital for Special Surgery. He joined Ochsner in 2006. While at Ochsner he has served on several committees and was section head of adult reconstruction/joint replacement from 2010 to 2014. In 2014, he was appointed chair of the orthopaedic department at Ochsner Medical Center and was named system chair in 2018. Dr. Chimento is board certified and has published several peer-reviewed manuscripts. He has given numerous national and international presentations regarding hip and knee replacement surgery. His major research interests are focused on delivering sound value-based care. He serves on national committees, is on the editorial board of the Journal of Arthroplasty and is past president of the Louisiana Orthopaedic Association.
