Dr. Chima P. Akunne was a James Dickson Carr Scholar at Rutgers University in New Jersey, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in cellular biology and neuroscience. He followed his undergraduate career with earning his Doctorate of Podiatric Medicine (DPM) from Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Upon completion of his didactic medical and surgical training at Temple University, Dr. Akunne relocated to New York City where he trained with renowned foot and ankle specialists within the Columbia Presbyterian Health System and was apprised and expertly trained in traumatic ailments of the foot and ankle, as well as reconstructive surgery of the foot and ankle.
Dr. Akunne both medically and surgically manages all ailments of the foot and ankle for both the adult and pediatric populous. He especially takes an interest in intoed gait correction, flatfoot deformity correction and tendinous and arthritic conditions of the lower extremity. Aside from elective and traumatic reconstructive procedures of the lower extremity, Dr. Akunne also is adept in wound care and limb salvage for the diabetic, vasculopathic, and neuropathic populous.
Dr. Akunne is board certified by the American Board of Foot & Ankle Surgery and uses every armamentarium to provide above the standard quality of care for his patients.
In his words, "I strive to develop a treatment and care plan, whether conservative or surgical, that is conducive to patient compliance and ultimate satisfaction. I am sure to detail the positive and negative sides of a given treatment algorithm and provide the patient with an acceptable or suitable alternative to any given course of treatment.
